FLORIDA. Both the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico border Florida. It is a peninsula with more coastline than any other state except Alaska. The northwest part of the state , called the panhandle, extends along the shore of the Gulf of Mexico. Rivers and creeks cut through the state, and it is dotted with springs, lakes, and swamps. Lake Okeechobee, the largest lake in the southern United States, feeds the Everglades, the great swamps that covers most of south Florida. The Florida Keys make up the southernmost part of the state. These small islands curve southwestward for about 150 miles (241 Km) off the mainland from Miami.
Visitors have been seeking Florida and its fountain of Youth for centuries. The Spanish were the first European settlers. In the 1821 the United States gained Florida from Spain and pioneers moved in. The Seminole Indian fierily resisted the settlers and were forced onto reservations in the West. Not all the Indians left: some retreated deep into the Everglades. In the 1880s, two railroad tycoons, Henry B. Plant and Henry M. Flagler, visited Florida as Yankee tourist and ended up building luxurious resort hotels and transportation empires. Plan build a railroad that connected Tampa with the northern states and established the West Coast's tourist industry. Flagler's Florida East Coast Railroad expanded to the upscale resort of Palm Beach, then to the Miami, and finally, on a string of bridges over the Florida Keys to the West. At each stop, Flagler created resort hotels that served as the foundations for communities, and in the case of Miami, a city.

NORTHERN FLORIDA. Florida's capital Tallahassee, in the panhandle. The largest city is Jacksonville, in the northeast center of the state. Amelia Island, near Jacksonville, is a popular resort known for its tennis facilities. Nearby St. Agustine is known as America's Oldest City. It was founded by Spanish explorer in 1565 and as a well-preserved historic center. The narrow street and Spanish-stile architecture reflect the city's rich history. The Castillo de San Marcos, a large, gray stone fortress built in the 1600s, denominate the city.

MIAMI BEACH. Located on this barrier island 2.5 miles (4 Km) across Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach is connected to the mainland bay causeways. In 1912 rock and sand were pumped from the bottom of Biscayne Bay and spread over mangrove roofs and soft sand to create land for the city. Collins Avenue parallels the ocean. Most of the beach is lined with highrise condominiums and luxury hotels. Greater Miami's and the Beach's flamboyant past includes rum running during Prohibition, gambling, selling real estate in a swamp, serving as a military barracks during World War II, and providing vacation havens for notorious characters.
SOUTH BEACH (SoBe) Is the trendy area known for its Art Deco hotels. In the mid-1930s, south Miami Beach was called God's Waiting Room. Hundreds of small hotels and apartments were build to house retirees attracted by the climate. The architectural style was influenced by the Paris Exposition the Arts Decorative. More than 800 of these hotels and other buildings, now refurbished and rebuilt, remain in the Art Deco Historic District between Sixth and 23rd streets from Ocean Drive to Lennox Avenue.

SOUTHWEST. Is a region of Florida , United States located along its gulf coast, south of the Tampa Bay area, west of Lake Okeechobee and mostly north of the Everglades. It consists of five coastal counties from Manatee County south to Collier County, although it sometimes is considered to include three rural counties inland, and the thinly populated mainland section of Monroe County.
The most populous county in the region is Lee County, and the region's largest city is Cape Coral with an estimated population of 151,389 as of 2006.
Southwest Florida was largely ignored by commercial developers until the late 1800s, and as such, lacks much of the heavier development present in other parts of Florida, such as that found in the central or southern regions of the state. In recent years however, there has been a major real estate boom focusing on downtown Fort Myers (high-rise residential condominiums); southern Lee County (commercial development and high-technology); eastern Collier County (residential development); and eastern parts of Bradenston
Overall, the region notably suffers from urban sprawl; however, numerous efforts in recent years have been made to remedy this situation, especially as the urbanized area of the coastal counties pushes eastward in to agricultural and and the sensitive Everglades.
Inland counties (De Soto, Hendry and Glades Counties) are notably rural, with the primary economic driver being agriculture. Important products grown in this area include tomatoes, beef, sugarcane, and citrus products including oranges. Agricultural harvesting in Southwest Florida employs approximately 16,000 seasonal workers, 90 percent of which are thought to be migrants.
Southwest Florida is a unique tropical location attractive to year-round residents, international travelers, part-time residents and sun-seeking vacationers. Trendy shops, endless dining options, white-sandy beaches, picture perfect sunsets, boating, world class fishing and golf are part of the Southwest Florida experience for buyers relocating to the Florida Gulf Coast.
Premier Properties is proud to represent a selection of finest New Developments in Southwest Florida, which include Mercato, (up-town & trendy) Aria (beachfront elegance), The Bonita Bay High-rise Collection, (amenity rich golf course living) Treviso Bay, (a TPC Golf Course Community) Madeira (amazing views on Marco Island) and Lemuria (convenient coach homes). Search each community to learn more about location, amenities and availability.
THE GULF STATES. Is the great curved arm of the Atlantic Ocean bordered by five states. Of these, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louissiana share a culture that sets them apart-a culture that includes Spanish, French, and Old South influences.

Laid-back and unpretentious, Florida's shores re dotted with island paradises waiting to be discovered. Just off the northeast coast, tiny Amelia Island exudes Victorian charm, with historic buildings backed by mossy forests. On the Gulf shore, the oak-lined streets and shell-strewn sands of Sanibel and Captiva Islands are tailor-made for relaxing.
